Danny Paradise - Personal Biography

Danny Paradise

Danny Paradise has been practicing Ashtanga yoga since 1976 and teaching worldwide since 1979. He initially studied with the first advanced Western teachers of Ashtanga yoga, David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff. Danny began teaching with David Williams in 1979 in Maui, Hawaii.

Danny learned the primary, intermediate and original advanced A and B series from David and Nancy over 5 years and also studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1978 and 1980. In 1980 in Maui, Pattabhi Jois held the first public third series (advanced A) class, in which Danny participated. (Advanced A and B were later divided into the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th series.) He has since studied and practiced with yoga teachers and spiritual guides in many other lineages and traditions as well as teachers of Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Danny draws from the teachings of Krishnamurti, Buddha and ancient Egypt, as well as from Hawaiian, Mayan and Native American indigenous cultures.

Danny communicates the teachings of ancient traditions in a non-dogmatic, compassionate and humorous way. His purpose is to help people develop a sacred, safe, meditative, healing, joyful, expanding, pain-free, personal self-practice. Danny teaches all the Ashtanga sequences with an emphasis on an expanding, evolving practice, as well as showing derivative poses, modifications and variations. His approach emphasizes personal responsibility, personal authority and spiritual evolution.

Being in an early group to learn the advanced practices of Ashtanga yoga and because of his love for travel, Danny has introduced the form throughout the world: Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East and Africa. He has also introduced the Ashtanga yoga practice to numerous world-renowned musicians, artists, actors, fashion designers, film directors and sports champions.
