Paula Herbert - Personal Biography
Paula Herbert started yoga in 1989, but it wasn't until 2002, when she took her first Ashtanga yoga class, that she was truly captivated by the transformative power of this ancient practice. She continued practising under the tutelage of David Collins, who she began assisting at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin in 2004 (and went on to marry in 2005!).
Prior to teaching at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin, Paula studied energetic massage therapy and polarity therapy/counselling for 4 years as well as completing a 4-year training in the practice and philosophy of Hatha yoga.
In 2005, Paula went to Mysore where she was blessed to experience Guruji's teaching firsthand. One of her most cherished memories is the first time she heard Guruji chant the Ashtanga Yoga Mantra in person.
In addition to this, Paula is honoured to have received teaching and guidance from senior Ashtanga teachers Peter Sanson and Paul Dallaghan, with both of whom she has studied annually for the last 5 years. Before that, from 2002 to 2004, she travelled to India each year to study with Lino Miele and Gwendoline Hunt.
Since the birth of their daughter, Grace, in 2007, Paula has not travelled to India but feels incredibly fortunate that since that year, Manju Jois has come annually to teach at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin. Not only does Manju share his wisdom of the practice, but also he brings the warmth of his family, his friendship and his cooking to her home--and for this, Paula is deeply grateful.
Paula lives in Dublin with David and Grace. She teaches daily classes at their shala as well as teaching retreats abroad.
