On Saturday 22nd October 2005 Ashtanga Yoga Manchester will be holding
its annual charity event, "The Great One O Eight" where participating
students will be asked to do a massive 108 sun salutations (surya namaskar
A). Last year's event raised £3000 for the Children In Need charity.
This year all money raised will be donated to Akhanda Seva for International
Shanti (ASIS) (whose sister organization, American Society for International
Shanti, has its website at http://www.operation-shanti.org/)
- an amazing charity in Mysore, South India (home to Ashtanga Vinyasa
Yoga) who are working to help the poorest and neediest children and
elderly, and the forgotten destitute, with the basic human needs: food,
shelter, medical services and educational assistance. They are actively
raising funds to build their first orphanage on the outskirts of the
city of Mysore. Get involved:
I would like to make this a national charity event and I am trying
to get as many yoga centres/teachers and their students involved as
possible - so we can all work together to raise one big amount for
ASIS. It would be great to organise the event so all participating
yogis run through the sun salutations at the same time on the same
day in their centres. Please get in touch via email ryanmattd@hotmail.com or

5. Instructors
needed in Shanghai
We need yoga instructors at this new yoga shala
in Shanghai! If
any instructor would like to experience China, you are
welcome to contact us. The shala will open October 2005. We could offer
the instructor: (1) return-trip ticket (1 time in six months);
(2) salary - pay by case or monthly;
(3) teacher apartment. The instructor must be (1) qualified; (2) obtain
your own visa to China; (3) teaching in English is OK. Questions, email
