1. In the premier issue (April 2003) of NAMARUPA, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois talks about traditional yoga in an article translated from a talk in New York in September 2002. NAMARUPA, Categories of Indian Thought, is a new journal that seeks to record, illustrate, honor and comment on the many systems of knowledge, practical and theoretical, that have originated in the Indian sub-continent. NAMARUPA presents articles that shed light on the incredible array of darshanas, yogas and vidyas that have evolved over thousands of years in India's creatively spiritual minds and hearts. "Ashtanga, NY," a documentary by Caroline Laskow and Mary Wigmore, premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival May 7, 9, and 11, 2003. Film synopsis: On September 1, 2001, the master of Ashtanga yoga, Pattabhi "Guruji" Jois traveled to New York City with his family to teach a one-month workshop. Ashtanga students from all over the world gathered in lower Manhattan to attend his classes. After September 11th, Jois continued teaching, and through the Ashtanga practice brought solace to a grieving community. "Ashtanga, NY" gives the real story behind Ashtanga, its guru and his diverse, zealous following.
