6. Thanks
from ASIS
American Society for International Shanti (ASIS) and its sister concern
in India, Akhanda Seva for International Shanti, would like to thank
everyone who participated in the Great One-Oh-Eight during October
and November of this year, our first of what we hope will be an annual
fundraising yogathon. Funds raised will go towards our programs to
help the destitute children and elderly in our world, starting in Mysore,
India. The event was a great success, with participants from the UK,
Puerto Rico, the UAE, and the US—and in particular the kids in
Jen's class from Reno, Nevada who dipped into their piggy banks to
participate—raising over $8,000 (and still counting)! For more information
on our work, please visit our website at www.operation-shanti.org and
see you again at next year's Great-One-Oh-Eight!
Products & Resources
1. Yoga
Unveiled DVD - Harnessing the colorful commentary of the most prominent
yoga scholars, teachers, and medical experts, Yoga Unveiled reveals
how yoga began, tells the story of yoga's passage to the West, describes
its numerous branches, recounts the fascinating biographies of the
foremost yoga masters, and explores yoga's astonishing medical potential.
View the trailer at www.yogaunveiled.com.
2. Urban
Yoga 2006 Calendar - Produced by certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher
R. Alexander Medin and photographer Gerhard Joren, this "alternative"
yoga calendar explores the question, "What is yoga?" in a
humorous, even dubious way. Underlying the urban context is an opportunity
for more serious inquiry. For every month you will find a fitting quote
and a Yoga column referring to
passages
in the Bhagavad Gita
or the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. On the back page of every month you
will
find
extracts
from
some of
the Principal Upanishads.
