4. Letter from Anthony Carlisi - Sri Lanka Relief Effort
My Dear Friends and Ashtanga Family: Here is an update on my efforts to help those in need in Sri Lanka after the tsunami devastation. I have cancelled my trip back to India as I have decided to stay here until May 3rd since I am being kept quite busy. It is my long-term commitment to help the lives of everyone in need here in Sri Lanka. I would like to thank all who have contributed in one way or another, whether it was
through forwarding my email to others or sending money for the families here. Just to let you know how much you boost their lives by only $50 (this amount is a family of three's income for a month!). That is a remarkable fact that blew me away and I have been living on and off in Asia for 28 years. So whatever you can do helps tremendously to give them a bit of a buffer to get their shattered lives a sense of dignity for carrying on. Since my last email, I have received a few thousand dollars thus far that has bought many boats, fishing nets, gas cooking stoves, food, clothing, and many other things. It is a very grassroots effort here. I have met with the other local volunteers helping to build houses and doing a lot of the same things I am. We are going to meet weekly to see how we can help each other in our projects for villages that were hit the hardest. So again, THANK YOU ALL FOR CONTRIBUTING WHAT YOU CAN--even if it is only encouragement through a loving email. I am so grateful to know and say that you are with me. Love and peace to you all, Prem (Anthony Carlisi). [See www.ashtangaworld.com/wst_page9.html for more details and photos of Anthony's efforts and how to donate via wire transfer or PayPal.]
