Mysore Style
Mysore style teaches Ashtanga Yoga's Primary Series in its original form, the same method used by the late yoga master, Sri. T. Krishnamacharya, who passed it down to present day Ashtanga guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and from Jois to his students in Mysore, India. Mysore style incrementally unfolds the Primary Series to each practitioner on an individual basis to meet the needs and level of each student. Beginners start with a 20-minute practice that evolves into a 1 hour 30 minute practice with completion of the full series.

Melanie Fawer
Melanie Fawer is one of only a handful of female instructors in the United States certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the only person qualified to certify teachers of Ashtanga Yoga. Melanie began Ashtanga with Jois in Mysore in 1994. Singularly from Jois, she was taught the entire Primary and Intermediate Series. Melanie returns yearly to Mysore to deepen her practice and is presently learning the Advanced B Series. She has a B.A. in psychology from New York University. She is an instructor and co-founder of The Yoga Room in New Orleans, Louisiana (
